A prayer vigil will take place at noon Saturday outside the Wayside Youth Facility in Framingham.
WCVB Boston reports that Justina Pelletier, the 15-year-old West Hartford girl who has been at the center of a yearlong custody battle, may return to the Nutmeg State.
“Our primary goal has always been the health and well-being of Justina,” said Alec Loftus, spokesman for the Massachusetts DCF, in a statement, according to Fox CT. “We want the parents to be able to work with the providers and courts to ultimately move Justina back to her home state of Connecticut. That is the objective, and is consistent with our previous efforts to find an appropriate placement near her home.”
CBS explains the story behind Pelletier’s ordeal: The 15-year-old girl had been a patient at Tufts Medical Center undergoing treatment for mitochondrial disease. However, when the girl’s parents took their daughter into the Children’s Hospital E.R. last February, doctors diagnosed her issues as psychiatric. When her parents disagreed with the diagnosis, the hospital asked Massachusetts DCF to get involved and the state took custody of Justina. According to My Fox Boston, Justina’s parents haven’t had custody of their daughter since last February, as Massachusetts DCF was asked to get involved after just four days.
WCVB Boston adds that a prayer vigil will take place at noon Saturday outside the Wayside Youth Facility in Framingham where Pelletier is being held.
